How to Get Your Site Listed in the DMOZ

The DMOZ is not dead it is alive and well with an average, DMOZ accepts 78 new editors per week, this is a sign of life.

Why would you want your site listed in the DMOZ anyway?

I did a search and here are a few answers I found:

Googles directory is made up of DOMZ directory listings
its a GREAT incoming link to you
100s of small search engine results are aggregated from DMOZ
A Dmoz listing induces a chain reaction in much the same way as optimization across the web of search engines
DMOZ is the most "neutral" source of directory/SERP listings you can get more or less…..and many people seem to use the data to "seed" their own directories and escapades

If you want a DMOZ listing here are the steps to make it happen.

The DMOZ is edited by volunteers. It is also free. The most important thing when getting listed in the DMOZ is choosing the right category.

There are 2 considerations 1) the most accurate and 2) is the category you want to list in being edited?

I have found the Regional Categories to have active editors.

Be sure to check the category description (the link in the upper right corner).

Some categories don’t have an editor, some editors aren’t very prolific, and some editors turn around listing requests very quickly.

The best advice I can give is find the best category for you site you can that has recent listings list there and be patient. If within a month or so your site is not listed try again with another category.

Remember the editors at DMOZ are volunteering their time so we need to appreciate their efforts.
