Buzz word bingo. Joshua is using the interactive device using a trick question.
Convergence is a black box that does everything. A cell phone is a good example of a good start at this.

Convergence is cultural rather than technological.

The Martix is being used an example including the movies and the video game.

The Geico Caveman is also being used because of the ads, a caveman website, and the upcoming sitcom.

Convergence Culture and Collective Intelligence.

The emergence of a new form of participatory convergence.

Now What?
Consumers are acting on media properties rather than being acted on by them.
Not trying to aggregate audiences but to propagate them.
YouTube as a distribution channel.

- spread ability -

Watching TV on a laptop - free TV shows world wide - making it hard to sell adds - what it means to be a viewer is changing - the 33 touchpoints.
expressions vs. impressions
peanuts sent to the network to save Jericho.
Not produces to viewers but producers to producers.
fan production vs. professional production
Interactivity is a Property of Technologies; Participation is a Property of Cultures.
Participatory audiences are very unruly.

Steve is showing us the book Convergence Culture.

Steve is now introducing John O’toole. John is talking about the dish network and their cutting edge interactive television. John is now introduction John Harrison.

Interactive TV - The Next 10 Years

Very interesting Dalen is talking about interactive television and he doesn’t even use the interactive devices we have available. He has the audience raise their hands.

The TV interactivity is available today without the addition of any new hardware on the consumer side. It uses the digital TV top boxes and remotes that are in use now.

Dalen is talking about the Nike Zoom campaign.
He says he can’t give actual results but… audience participation is really high.

Top chef didn’t want any of the interactivity to be on top of the actual video.

Interactivity in your TV should be rampant within the next12 months.

Great audience increases…

You don’t have to put in the telephone system to do sales with interactive TV.

It is all about the CONSUMER EXPERIENCE - NOT THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THE CREATION OF THAT EXPERIENCE!

Nice coverage of this conference, Gary, and yes, I was glaringly absent. Kicking myself even more after reading your summary, I love this stuff and wish I could’ve attended.

Unfortunately, even though I was registered to attend, other obligations took priority. Thanks for the links though ;)
