<p>Twitter doesn&#8217;t have direct link juice. (The search engines are getting better at using the shortened URLs.)  Because of Twitter&#8217;s high page rank, not only your tweets but even your Twitter profile page can get on the first page of Google. With just with a little backlink strategy this can be accomplished.</p>
<p>Being a <a href="http://www.searchengineoptimizationportland.com/seopdx/gary-pool.html"target="_blank"title="SEO Consultant" >SEO Consultant</a> I can&#8217;t pigeon hole a process to cover just one single task with a process so&#8230;</p>
<p>Twitter (and more) Backlinking Strategy:
<ul>
<li>Use a keyword research tool to to locate the keyword phrase/s you wish to rank on. I use <a href="http://www.searchengineoptimizationportland.com/nichebot" target="_blank">Nichebot</a> as my keyword research tool (a real time saver).</li>
<li>It would be best if you create a blog post on your own site that goes into the subject in even more detail using your chosen keyword phrase/s (never pass up a chance to increase your own SERPs).</li>
<li>Compose your Tweet using the keyword phrase you have chosen. It would be best if it would link to your blog post or some article of a similar topic.</li>
<li>Write a 226+  word article on <a href="http://ezinearticles.com" target="_blank" class="extlink">EzineArtlcles</a> and use your keyword phrase as an anchor text to your Tweet.</li>
<li>Write a second (and even a third) 226+ word article for posting HubPages and/or Squidoo with an anchor text backlink to your Tweet.</li>
<li>Use a social bookmarking software like OnlyWire to bookmark all your articles (Your Blog, EzineArtlcle, HubPages and Squidoo).</li>
<li>Make sure to ping everything, including the all the RSS feeds. (Pinging tools &#8211; <a href="http://www.searchengineoptimizationportland.com/pingler" target="_blank">Pingler</a>, <a href="http://pingomatic.com/" target="_blank" class="extlink">Ping-o-Matic!</a>, <a href="http://pingsites.com/" target="_blank" class="extlink">PingSites</a>&#8230;)</li>

<h2>Heading to Eugene and then West just 48 miles North of the Largest Oregon Coast City&#8230;</h2>

<p>It was a great meeting, we discussed some great marketing strategies. As fantastic as the meeting was we couldn&#8217;t wait to continue our trek.</p>
<p>On our way out of Eugene we just had to stop and fill up on caffeine at the local <strong>Dutch Bros</strong>.</p>

Heading west from Eugene, Oregon we hit the Oregon Coast at Florence just about 48 miles north of Coos Bay, largest Oregon coast city. We hated to miss out on visiting the largest of the coastal Oregon cities but our reservations were at one of the Oregon coast hotels in Newport. Our Oregon coast map said we still had over 50 miles to Newport. News was that it was still daylight and there was no major traffic ahead.</p>
<p>Driving past the Newport Aquarium we checked in at our choice of the Oregon coast hotels in Newport. We picked up the current copies of <strong>USA Today</strong>, the <strong>Newport News</strong>, a couple of cookies and headed to our room.</p>
<p>The next morning we hit the road heading up the Oregon coast towards Lincoln City Oregon, the next largest Oregon coast city on our path home. Passing the 45th parallel marker just outside of Lincoln City we continued north. </p>
<p>I decided to make a stop for a few Crocodile Dundee inspired photos of me as well as the beautiful Oregon coast views. <p>We made the next to last stop at the Tillamook Cheese Factory where we had some squeeky cheese and a shopping trip after I had a phone meeting with Portland&#8217;s <span class="nostyle"><a href="http://www.allbrightcarpetcleaning.com/carpet-cleaning/services.html" target="_blank" class="extlink">carpet cleaners</a></span>  Allbright Carpet Cleaning.</p>

<h2>We Moved 3 Miles to the West and with Uhaul, Moving Boxes, Carpet Cleaning, &#038; the Locksmith it Left a Gap in My Blogging</h2>

Well, as you have probably noticed my last blog post was pre-move. I had forgotten what a hassle moving was. </p>
<p>I never had to have my carpets cleaned before when we moved out.</p>
<p>Our old apartment management company required us to have the <a href="http://www.allbrightcarpetcleaning.com/carpet-cleaning/allbright.html" target="_blank" class="extlink">carpet cleaning</a> done professionally or pay $150 per room for them to get it done.</p>
<p>Some of the things we considered when looking for <a href="http://www.allbrightcarpetcleaning.com/carpet-cleaning/services.html" target="_blank" class="extlink">carpet cleaners</a>, other than price, was professionalism. Just how knowledgeable and reliable were they? With $150 per room on the table we didn&#8217;t want to make a mistake.</p>
<p>The <a href="http://locksmithportlandor.net/Portland/Locksmith/Commercial/" target="_blank" class="extlink">door locks</a> on our old apartment will need to be changed but at least that&#8217;s not our problem. We just turn in our keys and the rest will be up to our old apartment&#8217;s management company.</p>
<p>We will need to call the <a href="http://locksmithportlandor.net/Portland/Locksmith/Residential/" target="_blank" class="extlink">locksmith</a> for any re-keying of any locks in our new place that we will want to change and to make new keys for our new digs.<br />

We still have moving boxes all over the house. They are organized in neatly segmented areas by category. <em>I didn&#8217;t realize we have so much stuff!!!</em></p>
<p>Over all the move was painless&#8230; We found the local Uhaul of great assistance. Not only did they supply the truck rental but, they also had a bin for recycling moving boxes and we scored there. We plan on returning not only the boxes we got there but others we were using when they are finally empty. We have already returned just short of a dozen. When we arrived to return the boxes we didn&#8217;t even have to go inside. We just handed them off to another young couple who had just rented a truck.<br />

We are sure we have made the right move. We have a great home overlooking the Columbia River if you are standing at the kitchen sink or at certain places on the front patio.</p>

<p><strong>When I thought about creating this post I figured it could have a marketing twist but I gave up. Well now that I have finished it, I see that the part about our local Uhaul having a moving box recycle bin is a blurb on one example of very good <em>green</em> marketing.</strong></p>
<p><strong><em>If you will just treat your customers with care you can have them help you give better customer service by giving them better customer service. You give your customers a place to recycle their moving boxes when they are finished with them and your new customers a place to pick up recycled moving boxes when they are just beginning.</em></strong></p>

<p>Chris started out the day 1 second behind Valverde the leader and ended up by winning the Tour by 7 seconds. Chris put in a Herculean effort in the 13.7 mile time trial with a time of 32:33:85 a full 7.197 seconds ahead of Valverde.</p>

<p>Over all this was a very rewarding seminar. I attended both the morning session and the afternoon session. </p>

<p>Ron was trying to convince us that email is more popular than any other form of communication. He isn&#8217;t reading the latest information available. With Facebook out drawing Google this month with weekly visits&#8230; Email is still popular and I use it but&#8230; There are other ways of communication today and some are more popular. While I don&#8217;t totally agree with Ron, I still believe email marketing is not dead, it is still a very effective way to market a product or service and I even use Constant Contact.</p>
<p>Ron&#8217;s sound system is having problems. The sound is going in and out. <h2>Apple, MacForce, and the World Trade Center, How do they Rank? So Where&#8217;s the Coffee?</h2>
<p><a href="http://www.limug.org" target="_blank"  target="_blank"><img style=' float: left; padding: 4px; margin: 0 7px 2px 0;'  alt="limug Apple, MacForce, World Trade Center, and the Apple Snow Leopard Server Tour" src="http://www.searchengineoptimizationportland.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/limug.jpg" title="LIMUG" class="alignleft" width="140" height="140" /></a>As the representative from <a href="http://www.limug.org/" target="_blank" class="extlink">LIMUG</a>, I attended the Snow Leopard Server <a href="http://www.searchengineoptimizationportland.com/sem/"target="_blank"rel="external"title="Search Engine Marketing" >sem</a>inar yesterday at the World Trade Center in Portland Oregon.</p>
<p>After attending the Snow Leopard Server tour yesterday I decided I would go ahead and grade their presentation.</p>
<p>The <strong>World Trade Center</strong> is a very nice venue. Of course I had to park at the wrong end making my walk is far as possible. The event was held in a real nice auditorium with great lighting and seating. Checking in could have been any easier.</p>
<p><strong>MacForce</strong> had a single table with the sign up to win a free iPod. They were totally unobtrusive and basically put on a nice event.</p>
<p>Presenters from <strong>Apple</strong> were very knowledgeable. The format of giving us the information and then presenting a demo of what they presented was interesting. After while this format seemed to create a sense of confusion or just dizziness.<br />

During the break we were presented with a real nice selection of cookies, extremely large though they were. A selection of canned sugar in the form of soda pops or fake sugar in the same form. There was also ice water available in glass glasses. But nowhere to be found was coffee. You heard me right there was no coffee. We have a room full of computer geeks, it&#8217;s after three clock in the afternoon, and there&#8217;s no coffee to be found anywhere on site during the break.<img style=' float: right; padding: 4px; margin: 0 0 2px 7px;'  alt="coffee Apple, MacForce, World Trade Center, and the Apple Snow Leopard Server Tour" src="http://www.limug.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/coffee.jpg" title="Coffee" class="alignright" width="277" height="400" /></p>
<p>Apparently MacForce and Apple decided that the only caffeine to be consumed during the break was going to be in carbonated form. Needless to say this caffeine addict would&#8217;ve really appreciated <strong>a nice hot cup of coffee</strong> during the break.</p>

<h2>All I Wanted Was a Free Dog From Wienerschnitzel and I got Slapped by DGWB Advertising and Zoomerang</h2>

I am on their &#8220;special&#8221; list so they promise to give me special deals.</p>
<p>So far I did get a free chili dog for signing up. Other than that my experience with the Wienerschnitzel  email club has been a total disappointment.</p>
<p>Back to the story&#8230; This email said if I took some of my time and took their little survey I would get to print a free food coupon at the end of the survey. They also told me that my feedback was essential.</p>
<p>Well I had a little time and a free dog sounded good so I proceeded to follow the link in the email (see below).</p>
<p>Of course the site was filled with scripts that my &#8220;<a href="http://www.searchengineoptimizationportland.com/blog/2009/12/firefox-internet-security-identity-theft-phishing/">NoScript</a>&#8221; thought was dangerous. I had to temporarly allow the scripts in order to take the survey. I answered the first question about my age and was allowed to proceed to the next. Well when I arrived at this screen I was confronted with a questions along the lines of &#8220;Is any one you are acquainted with have anything to do with marketing?&#8221; in many different formations. Guess what I answered? Duh! That&#8217;s what I do.</p>
<p>I was then slapped in the face with a screen trying to sell me the companies services.<br />

<h2>I Take My Hat off to Chef Chris of Baked Alaska Fine Dining &#038; Public House</h2>
<p>On our trip to Astoria, Oregon my wife <a href="http://shirleyderose.com/" target="_blank" class="extlink"><strong>Shirley de Rose</strong></a> ran across an article in an Oregon Coast magazine on <strong>Chef Christopher Holen</strong> of <strong>Baked Alaska</strong>. So we decided we had to visit Chris and his restaurant.</p>

<p>What an enjoyable dining experience. I would recommend Baked Alaska to anyone looking for some great atmosphere and better food on the Northern Oregon Coast.</p>

Baked Alaska was born in the spring of 2000 and was originally the concept of Chef Christopher Holen, used in mock culinary school projects such as Menus, Business Plans etc. In June of 2000 the ideas spawned a real business plan and school externship.

<h3>Tough Decisions</h3>
<p><strong>Lunch was exquisite.</strong><br />
I chose the Broiled Pacific Sea Scallops over fresh black pepper linguini. Tossed with Fuji apples, fennel and ginger in a light champagne sauce. </p>
<p>Shirley decided on the Crab and Mushrooms Sambuca Carbonara. Crimini and oyster mushrooms sauteed with sweet onions, bacon, garlic, parsley, and crab meat. In a light Sambucca cream sauce over fresh fettucini in a light saffron </p>
<h3>Baked Alaska?</h3>
<p><strong>Yes, for desert we did choose the Half Baked Alaska.</strong><br />
The Half Baked Alaska is their signature dessert featuring a double chocolate chip cookie baked fresh in a cast iron skillet and topped with vanilla ice cream, walnuts, and chocolate sauce. It arrived at our table flaming with brandy. And as billed this wonderful desert was really perfect for sharing!</p>

<p>We had a very enjoyable lunch and plan on returning to <a href="http://www.bakedak.com/" target="_blank" class="extlink">Baked Alaska </a>on our next visit to <a href="http://www.oldoregon.com/" target="_blank" class="extlink">Astoria</a>.</p>
<p>I am talking about this restaurant not only for their great atmosphere and food but <strong>we can all learn a lesson or two from their marketing</strong>.</p>
<p>I just love their tag line <strong>&#8220;<em>Baked Alaska, where the only thing we overlook is the Columbia River!</em>&#8220;</strong>. And they deliver on their promises. A catchy tag line is only as good as what you do with it. If your tag line makes promises you had better deliver or all you will have is a catchy phrase and disappointed clientele.</p>
<p>Chris offers <span class="nostyle"><a href="http://portland-catering.com" target="_blank" class="extlink">catering</a></span>, cooking classes, and even has a kitchen supply store in the front of the building stuffed with everything you will need for your own dish creations.</p>

<h2>The Trek from Astoria to Seaside was a very Enjoyable 18.3 miles</h2>

We met over coffee and appetizers at the Shilo Inn in Seaside, Oregon. Glynis has a varied background in the arts. I mean the ARTS. Glynis has traversed the United States displaying her talents from the East coast to the West coast. She has worked in the marketing field from many angles.</p>

Wild Vines will be located in Sweet Basil&#8217;s and offer eclectic pairings of wines and noshes. Look for their grand opening.</p>

I have such fond memories of this season with its fresh air and sweaters and comfort food and, of course, the first of the Charlie Brown trilogy, &#8220;It&#8217;s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.&#8221;  Today, in this pooch&#8217;s (Zeke&#8217;s) backyard, cones and moss and peanut shells (?!) are falling from the tall, tall evergreens&#8211;signs of a gentler season before downed twigs, branches and power lines announce the arrival of winter.

I really like photographing food, as if you didn&#8217;t know.  I learned a lot about it when I worked for a commercial studio in Rochester. Cakes and ice creams and beverages, for instance, that you see in magazines and catalogs and on packaging are not always the real things. The studio is a sort of sterile, staged atmosphere that never really appealed to &#8220;photographer&#8221; me. I have been shooting, however, real prepared food dishes for the magazine, which should be out in a couple of weeks.

This all-suite Astoria, OR hotel is touted as featuring superior amenities and features like:</p>
<ul>
<li>Free high-speed Internet access</li>
<li>Free deluxe continental breakfast</li>
<li>Free local calls</li>
<li>Free weekday newspaper</li>
<li>Free use of on-site business center</li>
</ul>
<p>I guess &#8220;high-speed&#8221; in this case is meant to be faster than <strong>most</strong> dial-ups. The deluxe continental breakfast was just what I have come to expect from Comfort Suites, a very nice choice of biscuits and gravy, waffles, hard boiled eggs, pastry, and/or cereal. Of course they have a full compliment of beverages which includes good coffee.</p>
<p>We have a great room with a view of the Columbia River. If we find ourselves in this part of the state we will definitely consider staying here again.</p>

We are here in Astoria to visit with some prospective clients as well as meet with the <a href="http://www.seafoodschool.org/" target="_blank" class="extlink">Seafood Consumer Center</a> as part of my duties with the <a href="http://www.sustainablecateringassociation.org" class="extlink">Sustainable Catering Association</a>. The Seafood Consumer Center, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Their mission is to promote quality west coast seafood and provide new economic opportunities for area seafood businesses. They also provide market and product development services, seafood cooking classes, demonstrations and industry workshops.<br />

</ol>

<h2>Google, Verizon Wireless, and Motorola have Collaborated on a Winning Combination, droid the iDon&#8217;t Answer</h2>
<p><img src="http://www.searchengineoptimizationportland.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/droid_logo.png" alt="droid logo The iDont Answer   droid   Google, Verizon Wireless, and Motorola" title="droid" width="160" height="36" align="left" hspace="4" />I was watching the San Diego Charger game last night (if you can call that a game) <img src='http://www.searchengineoptimizationportland.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt="icon sad The iDont Answer   droid   Google, Verizon Wireless, and Motorola" class='wp-smiley' title="The iDont Answer   droid   Google, Verizon Wireless, and Motorola" />  when an ad came on that sent me to my computer. Now that is what I call marketing, an ad that takes me away from my beloved Chargers. The ad was for the droid. I have enclosed the short commercial near the bottom of the post for your viewing. </p>
<p>The theme of the ad, iDon&#8217;t, was a very effective long completion in the end zone against Apple&#8217;s iPhone.<br />

The droid is a triple collaboration that includes Motorola, Verizon and Google. It looks a lot like the iPhone, and might possibly be as thin or thinner than the iPhone 3GS. It also has three major advantages over the iPhone; a slide out physical keyboard, it is not controlled by AT&#038;T, and it is available from Verizon Wireless.<br />

I haven&#8217;t seen any official pictures of the droid, or anything else &#8220;officially&#8221; droid related other than a November release date (from July), but the folks over at <a href="http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/10/19/motorola-droid-hands-on/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"  class="extlink">Boy Genius Report</a> did somehow manage to get a hands-on chance with the droid (see the modified picture below).<br />
