WebVisions Day Three – Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality and the Final Day of WebVisions

After recovering from 3 days of WebVisions I am finally getting around to my WebVisions day 3 wrap up.
This was definitely an intense 3 days of learning, networking, and fun!
My day 3 highlight was a morning panel discussion titled “Augmented Reality”. The panel consisted of Amber Case, P. Mark Anderson, Anselm Hook, Tim Sears, and Kevin Cheng.
Augmented Reality has become more than a buzzword. It represents the next step in human/computer interaction. Interfaces that were once solid have become liquid. With the iPhone, we have the ability to download software from the air. With augmented reality, data and interfaces can be anywhere.
Join Robotvision founder Tim Sears, 3Dar co-founder P. Mark Anderson, AR Dev Camp founder, programmer and geohacker Anselm Hook, Twitter’s Kevin Cheng and Cyborg Anthropologist Amber Case for a panel about the current state and future of Augmented Reality.
Panel members will discuss seeing through walls, development history, and how they see augmented reality changing the way we communicate and see the world around us.
The topics kicked around by the panel were:
- Hunting ghosts
- Goggles
- heads up display
- Apple’s hiring of a wearable computer guy
- Steve Mann
- GPS appointment monitoring
- KML
- Simple GEO
The topic that really caught my attention was the GPS appointment monitoring.

You can actually keep track via GPS of the location of the person your meeting is with so you will know when you actually have to shut down your projects. You won’t have to sit idle any more waiting for your next appointment to actually arrive.
Very cool…
