Longtail is the way according to Heather. “Build your longtail keywords first.”
(I disagree here longtail keywords are great they actually convert better because they are closer to the end of the buying cycle but since your site traffic is an important part of your SERPs I feel that getting traffic into your site at the earlier part of the buying cycle is critical to your organic search engine rankings for all your keywords. I am of the opinion that if you choose a few longtail keyword phrases and work on the more general keywords at the same time you will be way ahead of the curve. There is nothing wrong with picking the low hanging fruit but you should still water the tree.)
