San Diego Chargers Beat the Indianapolis Colts with the help of Darren Sproles to rework the NFL Playoff Schedule

How do the Chargers, the Colts, the NFL Playoff Schedule, and Darren Sproles add up to marketing?

On Saturday night when the San Diego Chargers beat the Indianapolis Colts in overtime 23 – 17 I was ecstatic. I have been a Charger fan since they moved the franchise to San Diego the second year of the existence of the American Football League. The chargers will continue to be a part of the NFL playoff schedule. They will be heading to Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field to take on Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The kickoff is scheduled for 1:45 PM Pacific time.

I do believe that having that extra day helps,” Turner said. “We were on a short week last week. We played very, very physical games. Last night there was a bunch of guys that gave everything they had last night and having the extra day is going to help us physically, but more importantly mentally.”

Back to the marketing. Darren Sproles had a great game. With only 8:40 left in overtime, number 43, Sproles broke a 22-yard touchdown run to cap off one of the most thrilling playoff wins in Chargers history. Darren finished with 105 rushing yards on 23 carries, an average of 4.6 yards per carry and 2 touchdowns.

Darren also held up his end on special teams with a total of 72 yards on three punt returns and 106 yards with four kickoff returns. Sproles completed the game with the third most all-purpose yards in a playoff game in NFL history. His total of 328 all-purpose yards is the second highest in Chargers history.

Sproles is a tough guy,” Colts head coach Tony Dungy said. “He makes things happen. We missed him a few times in the open field and he did a great job. They played without LaDainian for most of the game and you have to give them credit. That’s what good teams do, other guys step up and fill in.”

So how does this relate to marketing you ask? It will create a run on Charger jerseys with the number 43! As of this post the official online Chargers Pro Shop doesn’t even offer a Sproles jersey.
