Juan Mauricio Soler wins Stage 9 in the Tour de France. Soler won with a time of 4:14:24.

The chase group, including race leader Michael Rasmussen (still the Tour leader) and Levi Leipheimer (USA’s best hope 9th place almost 4 minuted back) crossed the line just 42 seconds behind the Soler.

It’s my first victory on my first Tour. I was not thinking of it,” Soler told a news conference. “I was sick but I recovered during the rest day and was fit today. I did not know the climbs so I attacked like a fool.”

This was a great race to watch. The finishes really suck me in. It reminds me of when my Dad would watch an amateur wrestling match. He would set up at the top of the bleachers and move with every maneuver the wrestlers made. Now I guess I and just keeping up with tradition. I have to keep telling my self to breathe.

Have you noticed when the winning rider gets close to the finish line he will zip up his jersey and set up after crossing it? He will display his sponsors name with his arms spread wide in a cycling victory salute.

Ever wonder where all the money comes from to support the sport of cycling? These team sponsors spend millions to support their cycling teams. Why? Bicycle road racing is much more popular in Europe than it is here in the USA. Every time a rider spends time at the front of the race the TV cameras are on them.

These team sponsors know their potential customers and or clients. In Europe the pictures of the racers sporting their names and logos will be displayed all over the televisions and newspapers. They consider this great advertising and I agree. Branding that’s what it’s all about. If you can get your name and or logo all over the media you can build your brand.

How do you build and market your brand? Do you sponsor a Youth sports team? There are plenty of opportunities out there, Just give it some thought. I’ll bet you can come up with plenty of places and ways to build your brand. Regardless of your marketing budget, give it some thought, you will be able to find something suitable.
